The Leavenworth Girls Swim Team placed fifth overall at the Lawrence Invite. At the meet, the girls swam well achieving nine best times. The hard work and improved stroke technique is showing in the pool.
Individually, Elizabeth Bert earned two eighth place finishes. Bert also earned best times for the season in these events. In the 200 Individual Medley, she dropped six seconds, earning a time of 2:43.31. This puts her within three seconds of a state consideration time. In the 100 Butterfly, Bert decreased her season best time by three seconds for a 1:14.67, also within striking distance of a state consideration time by two seconds. This was an outstanding meet for her, including a best time for her 100 Freestyle split leading off the team’s 400 Freestyle Relay.
Landa Owens finished in sixth place in the 50 Freestyle decreasing her time to a 30.20. Abby Waugh finished in the top twelve in two of her individual events, eleventh in the event with a time of 31.33 and twelfth in the 100 Backstroke in 1:27.44.
Right behind Bert in the 100 Butterfly, was Marie Shibasaki with a ninth place time of 1:21.25, nearly a two second time drop.
Lauren Ruggles placed eleventh in the 200 Freestyle in 2:48.60.
In the relays, three of Leavenworth’s relays earned top twelve points for the team.
The 200 Medley Relay of Bert, Owens, Shibasaki, and Waugh finished in sixth in 2:20.71. The 200 Freestyle Relay of Shibasaki, Waugh, Owens, and Hope Alexander finished in ninth in a time of 2:13.24. The 400 Freestyle Relay of Bert, Shibasaki, Anna Loch, and Gwen Joslin finished in eighth place in 4:46.82.
